Legal Issues for School Districts.

Attorneys are telling schools risk assessments could cause them liability if they don’t follow through and implement suggestions. Schools are concerned about open records, FERPA, and other legislation and regulations that impact the development comprehensive crisis plans. What is required of our schools as they work to make their communities more secure?

Risk Assessment: Lessons Learned.

A panel of previous elementary school grant recipients, Oklahoma Homeland Security, and local government will share the nuts and bolts of risk assessment and highlight best practices in applying for assistance, preparing the assessment, implementation of necessary changes, and next steps.

Show Me the Money (How to Fund Security).

High-level security measures often are too expensive when completing a cost-benefit analysis on paper. Facilitators will describe funding opportunities for securing schools and suggest both low-cost and no-cost measures for implementation.

Managing Security Communications.

Keeping the public informed is important from a preventative and planning perspective before, during and after a crisis. This seminar will address what parents expect to know, what you should say and how to say it, effective media relations mechanics and other effective strategies for communicating with all concerned constituents during your most critical moments.

Protocols: What To Do In An Emergency.

You have conducted your risk assessment, and now have your comprehensive emergency plan in place. Now what? How does the local law enforcement community work with school districts? What role will each member of the response team take? Will you be able to execute your plan in a time of crisis?
